We actually visited Yu Gardens on the first day we arrived in Shanghai. It was a public holiday and the crowds were crazy like ants everywhere! All the folks from other towns flooded the touristy spots!
(Photo 1) Remember this photo and its mammoth crowds on the bridges connecting the Old Shanghai Town
to Yu Gardens? It was so crammed that any pregnant woman would have
delivered easily on the bridge!

(Photo 2) This is the small entrance into the most famous private Yu Gardens in Shanghai.
There seems to be many private gardens of the wealthy and famous since
ancient days in China. Now they are opened to public viewing for a small fee.

(Photo 3) The Yu Gardens is very impressive and fully landscaped with so many lakes, bridges, halls, chambers, pavilions and inner gardens within this site of 5 acres! It was first built by Pan Yuduan in the year 1559 for his father. That was during the Ming Dynasty.
(Photo 4) All my photos looked like greyish tones as it was just end of late Winter and still cold.
(Photo 5) This is one of the bigger main halls but I don't even remember its names as I never recorded
them like some efficient bloggers.
them like some efficient bloggers.
(Photo 6) Everywhere I walked and turned, it looked almost the same in this huge private gardens!
I decided to look up to see dragons flying in the skies!
(Photo 7) Pan Yunduan's father was very fortunate to be able to enjoy the beauty of the landscapes
in his own privacy of the walled perimeter.
(Photo 8) It was heavenly if I could just relax and sip warm tea while playing candy crush or surfing
Chinese porn sites by the lake. Wakakakaka
(Photo 9) My wife leaned on the rails and gazed at me lovingly like the happy fishes below.
(Photo 10) The exterior outside the walls of Yu Gardens taken from the upstairs of a tea house pavilion.
(Photo 11) This guy posed under the beautiful tree and he shook the tree like a mad monkey!!!
All the flowers dropped down until tree habis BOTAK!!!!
OMG!!! Damn Sohai!!!!

(Photo 12) Everywhere it was crowded and made my head giddy & cold as it was like 8 degrees.
(Photo 13) Aha! I caught my wife squatting and hiding behind the rocks.
We still play hide & seek like kids!
(Photo 14) I noticed that the Chinese folks do not plant so much beautiful flowers everywhere like in Japan.
(Photo 15) This carved granite Dragon was very impressive with nice long tail running along the high walls!
hahaha ur cute little wife playing hide and seek in this garden that full of people?! lucky u can find her :)
ReplyDeleteeh nice garden la, i should go there one day.
We try to keep our hearts young. Age is just a number lah. I bet you will love Shanghai too.
DeleteThat picture No. 6 looks like a scene from some Chinese romance movie. Nice!!! Hey! The guy who shook the tree looked very decent and handsome too leh. Too bad, so uncultured.
ReplyDeleteWhat movies?? LOL.. I thought you might say Chinese porn movies! Those ancient sites always made me feel old and sentimental.
DeleteThey have lots of Chinese monkeys there creating ruckus and havoc. Truly uncultured!
Eh! Later got people think Letchumi squat between the rocks to poo pulak! LOL
ReplyDeleteThe folks won't even bat an eyelid seeing people poo. Only Anay will stare at them disgustingly with shocking jaws dropped.
DeleteThe building in the first photo is really beautiful but damn scary looking crowd crammed on the bridge lah.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope the bridge is strong and solid enough to hold the weight. Otherwise it collapses and everyone on it will fall into the pond and have to swim like the koi fish below.
DeleteYeah, like the Penang 2nd link.
DeleteScary @.@
I was worried on that ancient bridge too. The crowds were too big and heavy like herds of circus elephants. It clearly shows how popular Shanghai is!!
DeleteEh, what happened to the Penang 2nd bridge? Adoi, Ag Hua so katak bawah tempurung recently due to lacking of Internet connection.
DeleteAncient bridge built so long ago wont collapse la..not like ciplak new ones
DeleteLove the photos here! But wow! So many people!!! I will feel very claustrophobic!
ReplyDeletePanda would be squeezed and emerged as Pink Panther instead.... Muahahahahaha!
DeletePlaying hide and seek with your wife? LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe play more games than this!
Deletei remember Anay posted the first photo before in your earlier post.. the crowd was really scary, Thambee sure will faint being forced to sniff those body odour!! but seems like Letchumi was so calm and happily smile at the camera~~ almost didn't notice her if i had not scrutinize that photo a bit..
ReplyDeleteThambee's eyes can be sharp and hamsap when the need arises! You are right about their body smells!!! Bluek!
DeleteWa lau eh! SK posted this picture twice, but now only I notice Letchumi was in there. Ai yo yo! SK's sesame eyes are very terror.
Deletenot SK posted but Anay posted lah.. ahem ahem, SK's sesame eyes may be small but can be terribly sharp wokay?? don't play play with me, i remember many things i've just only glanced before.. Photo 1 was posted in Anay's "The Charms of Old Shanghai (1)" post, it's grouped with another photo of Anay, see the photo here..
Deleteoh i didn't know there's a private garden hidden in there!! i thot the whole place is just that outer space as shown in the first photo.. i remember we just went there late afternoon, had some xiao long bao, took a few photos and left..
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity you missed it!!! The entrance is just beside the Xiao long bao stall. Anyway you won't regret for not seeing it. It is not that superbly great like Forbidden City in Beijing!
Deletehahaha, but reading Anay's post it's like so superb only!! btw, you must be scolding me if i told you i just spent half a day in forbidden city!! muahahahaha~~
Deletevery nice inside there, and how much did Anay have to pay to get inside?? now i wonder if the entrance fee is kind of "legal"?? hmmm, just a sudden thought..
ReplyDeleteThe entrance fee was cheap but I have forgotten the price. They have uniformed guards manning the ticket booths!
Deletei love that photo with Anay looking up into the sky in the pavilion on the lake!! fuyoh, so zen and so bergaya lah!!
ReplyDeletep/s: next post onwards, can you number your photos so that it's easier for us to make reference in the comments??
So zen kah?? I thought I looked like Chow Yuen Fatt in deep thoughts in the movie - "The Last Tycoon"
DeleteDei, I have numbered the photos already. Thanks for reminding me.
numbered the photos already?? mmmm, like that good boy lor~~ :D
DeleteAgree with SK. Anay is pandai posing la! If there is Malaysia Next Top Male Model, I will enroll Anay la!.
DeleteAgree with sk. Numbered photo much easier
Deletethe garden seems to be very huge!! how many hours did Anay and Letchumi spend in there, including the time you chase each other along the alley by the lake.. it would be nice to spend an afternoon there, sipping a cup of chinese tea and play a game of chess!!
ReplyDeleteI think we were inside for almost 2 hours! My head was dizzy cos it was crowded and cold.
Deleteand now i understand why the gardens in the ancient times must be huge enough and needed all the landscaping.. because the rich tai-tai had nothing better to do and all they can do is either stay inside the room stitching and reading and drawing, else strolling in the garden to look at flowers and fishes..
ReplyDeleteAh Boy's description sounds so much like he's referring to the emperor's concubines.
DeleteAnd the rich and famous ancient uncles sure had more than 10 wives or more to fill his mansion. It is so huge that it was impossible for the uncles to find his wife in the house, so he might as well parked several wives a few meters away. He can stop and go around his own house :p
I also had similar thoughts but they didn't write any stories about the owners. The wives could have fought easily as the pavilions and houses were too close. I thought only 1 big family resided there.
Deletephoto #13: what is Letchumi doing there?? squatting in such a secluded place.. was she trying to do the same thing that the lady did on the highway you saw nearby Nanjing Station?? muakakakakaka~~ :D
ReplyDeleteThere was a nice toilet inside to use. I think Malaysians can poo so easily like their folks. I want to try it someday.
DeleteAnnay's kuku bird will catch cold and lembik if you openly poo on the street.
Deletelove photos 3, 4, 7, 8 and 14.. see, i told Anay to number your photos.. so that Thambee don't have to count chuįø»iyam, oį¹į¹u, iraį¹į¹u, mÅ«į¹į¹u, nÄį¹ku, aintu and so on.. and Anay also doesn't need to count ௧ ௨ ௩ ௪ ௫ and so on to know which photos Thambee was referring to~~ :D
ReplyDeleteWakakakakakaka! Thambee damn gila...
Deleteall those photos are simply lovely. I like the one that you were looking at the sky. So cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you... I didn't expect everyone to think it was nice.
Deletewah, i wanna go there~~~ nice photo taken~ =D
ReplyDeleteOn your way back from Sheffield you can fly China Eastern to stop over in Shanghai!!
DeleteSo many people...
ReplyDeleteU didn't use sk photoshop to edit away the people.....
I like the dragon roof too...very nice
The Dragon Roof was very attractive and unique.
DeleteLovely garden. I came to know this place by a friend. Heard if it, saw many photos but still haven't got chance to visit it.
ReplyDeleteThe weather, the lake, the garden and the environment just perfect for you and ur mrs - relax and calm all the time.
DeleteYou will love Shanghai, go quickly!
DeleteThe first photo... damn crowded. How to move? Aiyoyo...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a tourists spot.
DeleteWe just moved body to body lah! LOL
DeleteTourists spots with a lot of history. Nothing wrong what.
DeleteBut I wonder if tour guides let those on tour wander around inside. Or maybe just take photo outside to show you were there and that's enough? :P
Yu garden's landscape is amazing. Very huge garden too.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever in possing. You should teach SK how to post pose....
DeleteI thought SK is a better model! Young and hensem SK pandai gaya lah. I need to learn.
DeleteI don't see what's wrong with SK's photo.
DeleteUp to each person la how to pose. After all, it's their photos.
Who are we to say who is better or not?
Anay is definitely more bergaya lah, Arumugam!! he looks like Chow Yuen Fatt once seen and never forget.. Thambee sure looks like normal pedestrian on the road, seen and forgotten~~ :D
DeleteSK and Anay must go inside toilet and self snap picture like Yannie and Ah Hua. Then I will see who is better in posing. Wakakakka!
DeleteThe photos posted above are so tranquil and beautiful. But what attracts me the most is the craved granite dragon on top of the wall. It's magesticly gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese put up various statues on their roof (what do you call that?). But the Chinese put up a whole long dragon! Kekeke
Chinese loved to build everything biggest and longest since ancient times.
DeleteAnnay and Letchumi, a famous couple from Bollywood, thus must carry on the tradition to sing and chase each other around trees while singing and dancing happily to their popular Chennai tune.
ReplyDeleteBut the place is so crowded, I will surely hold on to MM tightly because I'm afraid I will get lost.
We still behaved like courting couples everywhere. We must live to be happy lah.
DeleteMy x-colleague from US did enjoy the Yu Yuen but i just think it's so so only. BTW, if i were the guy under the tree, i will do a jump under the tree :)
ReplyDeleteI visited this place during my last trip to Shanghai & was equally impressed with the vast garden & beautiful surroundings.

ReplyDeleteI came looking for your story about being kicked out of Canada. Clearly this is not the right post, but never mind, I loved your photos and funny comments.
ReplyDeletePS: So where's the "banned from Canada" story? Come on, give me the dirt! :D
Pixz #6 Aha like one Chinese saying 'Rhinoceros seeing the moon' wishing for things beyond your dreams some more in broad daylight. Got see any dragons kah? haha
ReplyDeletePixz #15 Love the flow the Dragon lovely.
ReplyDeleteQuite like all the rooftop design they are simple amazing
ReplyDeleteImpressive garden. Guess they open ip the garden niw to make more money gua
ReplyDeleteI wondered how these garden survived the revolutions. Read some memoires said many such big houses were defaced during the revolution. Few family cramp into small space
DeleteLol lucky its letchumi you found hiding yhere n not some old woman squatting to do some big biz :p
DeleteAdei...that fella ah...so dimb dumb or whattttt shake the tree like that. Recarnated fr monkey ah
DeleteWill be very "pek cek" when taking photo at those crowded place, so many people be your background >.<
