Make a date with Coppelia, The Girl With Enamel Eyes

I have only been watching ballet rehearsals all my life from Penang's Priscilla Teoh Ballet Academy, all the way to US. Somehow I had no chance yet to watch a real full performance so far. In US, I lived in the Pittsburgh's boarding school at Point Park College where they had a Dance & Performing Arts faculty. Many ballet students had to practice their dances everyday inside the big halls while foreign students like me could only stand behind the pillars to watch them tip toed gracefully in and danced around beautifully like happy swans. Ballet performances are often well received and fully appreciated in US. On the opening nights, we could often see chauffeur driven stretched limousines arriving outside the Opera Houses and Theaters with distinguished male guests wearing their best evening attires of tuxedos accompanied by ladies in pretty designer gowns. That's how glamorous the ballet performances are perceived by the American high societies and Art lovers.

I was truly excited to hear that a romantic comedy ballet performance called "Coppelia -The Girl With Enamel Eyes" will be coming to town this weekend!! I told my wife that I will bring her to watch and nothing's going to stop me. I also invited some tutu friends to go along to enjoy the best ever ballet performance this year. All my tutu friends are guys like me who love and appreciate beautiful performing Arts like this.

Here's some insight of the coming performance at the Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur this 6 & 7, July 2013.

Coppelia revolves around Franz and Swanhilda as two promised lovers. Coppelia is the mannequin creation of Dr. Coppelius’s mystical workshop.

A cacophony of mischief takes place in the mystical workshop when Swanhilda and her friends sneak into the workshop, Franz climbs through the window and Dr Coppelius returns. Surprises unfold and true love is united. I guarantee you that it would be an evening of excitement and fun to enjoy their finest performance!

Look at how graceful the dancers would tip top and dance beautifully around the stage!
You and I would be truly amazed.

She sits on the balcony everyday and Franz becomes enchanted by her beauty, much to Swanhilda’s dismay.

Come and join me for the evening! Here is the ticketing details for the ballet performance.

Tickets are priced at RM 50, 90, 120, 160 and 200 (with a RM 3 surcharge per ticket)

Tickets can be purchased from: ticket2u.biz (Tel: 03-414 78600)

Istana Budaya Office (03- 4026 5558)

  10. Eventually at age 8, she dropped tennis coz racquet's weight too much to handle, later dropped organ, ear got problem, Ctrl Alt Del computer & art but stayed on with ballet in Greenapple Ballet Academy, Penang and advanced to Modern dance, Jazz and Tap dance. Bananaz loves Tap dance very much but very unfortunate there is no class for adults.

    1. I heard kids are always fickle minded and lost interests along the way.

My niece wanted to learn Tae kwon Do badly and her father had to enroll her. After 2 lessons she quit citing it was not fair that opponents chopped her. She was just 8 years old!!!!!!

  11. hmmm, i have not watched any ballet performance before.. it's so good that Anay has the opportunity to watch rehearsals!! i think only in rehearsals you will learn to appreciate the performers.. years and years of effort and determination and perseverance they have put in just for the performance on stage, albeit just a few minutes..
