Happy Chap Goh Meh 2014

In just a blink and the Chinese New Year is almost over! It made me really fatter with no ending of "Yee Sang" tossings and feasting on the costly "Poon Choy" servings. While my waistline had increased, my pocket size had decreased now. It was fun to tease the kids and give out Ang-Pows after collecting them for too many years. I was celebrating the Chinese New Year in Kuala Lumpur before heading to Kampar and my hometown, Penang where all my relatives & friends live.

A few days ago, I invited a very old friend Peter Tan to have lunch at The Han Room at Gardens Mid Valley. We 2 couples had to wait for 1.5 hours for our table and whiled away the time sipping fruit juices at the Mexican Cafe next door. Peter Tan is wheelchair bound and a well known blogger in Malaysia who champions for all the disabled in our country today. He was a very popular guy with all the school girls in my hometown during his younger days. He was tall, dashingly handsome and very charming when he spoke. I used to fetch him out to teenager parties and outings on many weekends before the swimming pool's tragedy struck when he was just 18 years old. On that fateful day, he was there having fun with his friends at the Penang's Chinese Swimming Club when he head-dived into the shallow end of the pool and hit his skull really hard! The impact sent millions of mega-shocks down his spine. He sank to the bottom of the pool motionless and friends had to drag him out where the ambulance put him on the mercy flight to KL's General Hospital immediately. His paralyzed body had to be clamped onto the hospital's equipment for spinal injury patients while his head was faced down and screwed with metal nuts & screws which were fastened to heavy weights pulling his head!! That poor Peter was tortured in that clamped position for many months. I visited him only once at the hospital and cried behind the door the minute I saw him.

This is his famous blog links with over 4.2 million hits: http://www.petertan.com/blog/

We all parted after the happy meal and I was attracted to the festive decorations outside. For sure, I had to take some naughty photos pretending to be a cloth seller! My antics attracted many onlookers and suddenly, one culprit on-looker just pranced onto ME!!!! Goodness!! He bloody shocked my ass.

It was an ex-colleague during the days we worked for the HKG's advertising agency!

  7. haha, i have "yee sang" two times only with my family, i don't really fancy "yee sang" lah, it's all flavorings and oils i guess, haha!! but i have friends who had "yee sang" like almost every alternate days, really cannot understand how he is going to cope with that, haha.. and "poon choy"?? hmmm, i had that once and i think i do not like it.. it's like everything being put together and all lost their own signature taste.. i would actually prefer them to be eaten separately rather than like the "chap suey" style, it's a waste to those expensive ingredients lah..

    1. I also don’t fancy yee sang but my lady superior very fancy one leh.. She said if possible, she wants to have yee sang everyday for 15 days! No kidding! She said it’s “hou yi tau” wor..

The thing I don’t like about lou sang is that I almost always never get my share of salmon slice. They lou lou lou, then after that terus “kiap” the sang, and I always let them rebut first.. Then only I slowly take my share.. And salmon is always nowhere to be seen..

    2. This year i have not have yee sang. Not sure why. No craze about having yee sang this year

  8. Kind of sad for your friend but thank God he is looking very positive today... Always have to look on the brighter side if consequences hit us... easier said than done.. needs a lot of determination and support to go through...
You really look like a happy go lucky man! With all your humour and expressions, one can never feel dull with you around!!

  9. Anay has a lot of rich and famous friends, and now i know one more of them!! fuyoh, i click that link and saw his profile picture, he looks a bit like Patric Tse (Nicholas Tse's father) when he was young!! no wonder Anay says he was dashingly handsome and very charming.. i bet Anay was also a very handsome guy when he was young like the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, and when the two of you were walking together on the street, surely all girls would come nearby and stop by to admire the two handsome hunks!!

  10. so saddening to hear about Peter's incident when he was 18, but then i think he leads an even more meaningful life now, which we should feel happy for him.. and while celebrating his life, he is also helping others for a better life.. well, this is indeed a great person to have on this Earth, agree?? and how honoured, Anay shares the same surname as his, haha~~ :p

  11. where was that place Anay camwhore with all the fabrics?? is there truly such a shop or that was just CNY decoration?? looks nice and happy with all those colorful floral prints.. and aiyoyo, Anay was trying to act like one Indian Minachi by covering half of his face with that cloth he thought was saree?? but awkward lah, it should be Letchumi who was doing it, but she was standing so stiff in front of the camera dei.. Anay should pass on some of your cheeky and naughty behavior lah.. haha!! :D

  12. No photo of you and Peter? He's a good friend of my good friend, Yan - who runs the local Sarawak English news daily. They comment frequently on one another's updates on Facebook. She's a very nice lady, very generous too:

  13. Sorry to hear about your friend, Peter. My heart skipped a beat after reading about his swimming pool tragedy, especially the clamping position, and he was only 18. I have to agree with SK he looks like Patrick Tse.

    1. Yee sang? Oh yes, I had like 3-4 times of yee sang this year.. Once during our reunion dinner with family, and the remaining with colleagues (and bosses) during company meals. Poon choy? Nope, didn’t have it this year, but I had it few years back though with the in laws.

    2. You look naughty hugging that tight-fitting figure-hugging mannequin, hehe. But also cute at the same time la. The shop owner actually allowed you to do that in his shop ahh? Oh wait, that was not a shop right? Ahh, I remember now, I saw it in FB, it’s not a shop, but sort of “street” decoration in one corner right.. And your wife looks very sweet by the way..

    3. The world is so small, you bumped into your ex colleague while you were making silly faces posing for the camera, haha.. Eh you look damn funny in your last picture, like wana lick somebody up, wahahaha..

Your tongue reminds me of the snake-man.. There was this documentary about weirdos who tattooed themselves and had minor surgeries to make themselves resemble a lizard (or snake or whatever). He was showing off his tongue just like you, and then, *whoop*, his tongue slit open like a snake’s! Geli dou..

But of course you don’t look geli la.. Very handsome ok..

    4. P/S: Please don't gag me with my own ribbon or your smelly socks (for saying you reminded of the snake-man) and throw me into the jamban or worst, burn me alive.. I may make some manja-face and beg you for mercy. But SK warned before that not all men will "sau" manja attitude and you might just give me one tight slap until my ribbon can fly 250m away from me.
