Do You Love Your Family?

 Warning:
You will see a gory photo below of my office colleague.

I have complained many times in blogs that all but 2 males in our factory are cigarette smokers. They are really chain smokers to be precise! My bosses and managers smoke heavily in their rooms everyday including the very old Datin who rarely comes to visit, often clad in tight shortest mini skirt and parade in her 5 inch heels from Paris. She often made heads turn with her cigarette in hand and some often mistook her for being an old prostitute.

The 99.9% male colleagues smoke inside the toilets, meeting rooms and lobby. I was an ex smoker myself and a party animal who went clubbing almost nightly, drinking till wee hours! I even participated in the Beer's Yard Drinking Contest. Ahem! So I am a veteran ex smoker who knows all the pleasures of nicotine habits.
My shirt smells everyday and I have kindly advised my colleagues to cut down or quit this unhealthy habits before too late. All fallen to deaf ears!

My mouth could be fiery like curries when provoked at times and that made me the best trouble shooter in all our company's divisions. One day my next table's buddy, Steven Lim chided me for taking leaves often for overseas trips while he could ill afford to travel even to Penang with his family. His 2 young sons hated him as they could not even visit Singapore's Universal Studios. I told him to do the Maths for his smoking habits.

3 packets X RM10 per pack X 30 days = RM900 per month
RM900 X 12 months = RM10,800 per year!

Steven jumped from his seat with utter shock. It never crossed his mind to calculate per year! He could easily bring his family of 4 to visit Singapore or even Hong Kong!

Now disaster has finally struck another colleague instead in the Production Department. He went on medical leave for 3 months after smoking for 32 years! He showed me the photo of his neck!

It was taken in December 2013 and the rotten flesh has healed by 50% but not the internal cells.
Now he has quit smoking and eats only home cooked meals of plain rice with steamed white fish or plain chicken meat without any sauces or salt. He was shy when I saw him eating his lunch in a corner and smiled sheepishly.

Everyone at work is least bothered by this colleague's suffering.

....Life & Smoking still goes on......

    2. You should learn this example from a lady who tried so hard to advise her hubby to quit smoking. One day she came back alone from hospital sobbing to break the bad news that she suffered from early stage lung cancer due to second-hand smoke, Her apologetic husband was shocked and sad. She told him to carry on smoking when she has passed away but the husband managed to quit right away. Months later, she told her husband that it was April Fool's Joke. He was speechless!

I have heard about this PPAR before. My colleague is stubborn and has been taking both Western and Chinese medicine which seems to heal his outer skin so far. I will ask him anyway.

Ewwww, that was a disgusting photo! Sorry la but it's really gerli, see that's what one has to pay for for smoking so long! My hubby smokes occasionally (but not in front of me, cause I'll give him a good lecture if he does) and I have been telling him so many times not to! Now I have to show this photo to him!

    1. The govt is desperate and will increase the prices again this year!!

Most smokers do not love their own body at all. Do you think they really cared for the family sometimes? When I fetched lung cancer patients from Hospice Malaysia to hospitals for treatment, I could see how they suffered the tremendous pain when they breathed. They were rolling and hugging pillow inside my car. One old man even threw up smelly fluid from his rotten lungs! Eewww!

They told me that they all regretted so much and felt terribly sorry for the family. They told me to spread the stories of the pain they suffered. Smoking Kills. They have gone to heavens.

  6. your calculation was somehow not accurate lah.. you should calculate 365 days a year, and if he spends RM30 just on cigarette each day, then it's a whopping RM30 * 365 = RM10,950!! look at that figure, shocking huh?? but really?? three packets of cigarette a day?? that's a bit too much right?? his lungs must be darker than charcoal i guess.. cut down to a packet a day, and he could have over RM7000 to bring his family for a vacation somewhere dei~~

    1. I must salute you when comes to Maths. Anay is hopeless okay coz I am not a calculative person.

  7. errr, i was wondering what actually cause that on his neck?? because of smoking?? doesn't seem like, i thought inhaling too much of nicotine just gotta kill the cells in your lungs, but then externally on the surface of the neck?? how unbelievable!! and so he is fully recovered now?? eating very plainly unsalted meat and veggie and rice everyday?? and i supposed he has already quit smoking huh?? good, he can have more savings to go travel, and make his life more healthy and happy~ :)

    1. Good question!! This colleague hid from everyone the real truths. He blamed that it started from one big nanah (Pus) that swelled till so big! Anay was not stupid and bombarded him with my Hospice patients observations. Finally he confessed that doctor pointed out that the nicotine tar seeped through his throat and emerged from the back!!! His neck walls are so thin and I believe the cells on the whole neck's back is affected too.

This guy is not Steven and his kids probably didn't bother him about travels.

    2. yes, smoking is really bad for smokers but surprisingly some hardcore smokers don't seem to suffer from smoke-related diseases at all.

I am very straight forward, you know rite.. There was one time, I mou pei min, I terus say “eh, you are very smelly la, I don’t like” .. Of course he still smokes, but at least he doesn’t come to me (to ask me to do things) after he smokes.. keke..

    2. So, what made you stopped? I have a colleague who used to be a heavy smoker in the office.. He used to smoke like 3 packets a day, like how you calculated there.. I hated going out with him for lunch even though we always go out in a group.

Everytime, when we arrive our lunch place, he will get out to smoke first, while we all wait for our food.. When our food comes, he will come back and eat.. He smells very stinky liao that time.. He will gobble his lunch, then sneak out for a smoke again. When it’s time to leave (he drives), gawd, we get into his car and you can imagine the smell, all crammed into his myVi.. Arrgh, the smell..

But the good thing is, this colleague stopped smoking in less than 2 weeks, because he admired a girl in our office, and she asked him to quit smoking coz she hates the smell of smoke. And *ding* (like a microwave switch), he stopped in 2 weeks time!

Yep, smokers need self-realization and also some motivation to quit. But sometimes, because of love, they can miraculously do it faster than anyone can expect.. Eh, how come I'm talking about love here..

I graduated from high school in 1960---and Daddy was dead in 1969... SO sad.... Hope your co-workers get the message and quit. I truly don't know how you can work in that atmosphere. 32. Hallo, Twilight Man! Ohisashiburi desu ne! Long time no see, but my workload has semi-killed me. +_+

Yes, I love my family, but they're all insane and they drive me up the wall. That answers that.

Smoking? I have a very complex relationship with smoking. I've never smoked myself, but due to my work - journalism, television, war zones, now in smoker's paradise Japan - I've always been surrounded by chain smokers. I can tolerate cigarette smoke provided it's not heavy smoke in a small room, and Do. Not. Smoke. While. I'm. Eating.

Cigar smoke over whisky in a small film noir bar can be rather nice, though, in very limited quantities. Grin.

But ... and this is a very important but ... smoking is NEVER good for you. That neck? Holy shit!
