Beautiful Fridge Magnets

This morning I opened the 2 refrigerators and took a good look on its upper doors.
At one glance, I could quickly recall the happiest days in Shanghai and Japan.
I seldom shop much in overseas so I would buy souvenirs like cute fridge magnets
for myself. They are cheap and light to carry besides giving them to friends who
would love to collect them without even visiting the place.

I rearranged the fridge magnets' positions and my door look
vibrant again. I love the Chinese Opera's Magnet the most
as it is unusual and cost me a bomb. It is made of soft rubber with
movable parts to remind me of the happy Winter days strolling in Shanghai.
We walked along the Bunds every night, enjoying the scenic
view of Pudong and cruising boats along Huangpu River.

The 2nd fridge's door contains assorted magnets given by
my friends. I have not visited Boracay, Rome, Paris and others.
I even kept the piece given by the famous Sibu blogger.
I wonder how many readers collect the magnets and decorate their
fridge as well. Between key chains and magnets, I would prefer
fridge magnets as I found many souvenir key chains to be too flimsy
and would break & gets spoilt too easily. Tell me what do you
like to receive from traveling bloggers?
Postcards, Fridge Magnets, Key Chains, Tidbits or Nothing.

  1. I used to collect lots of keychains together with my younger sister until I went Europe to study. From there, I started to collect fridge magnets until now. But I still love to buy at least a keychain every place/city/country I went. I also bought the Chinese opera fridge magnets from Shanghai. Maybe someday I should also share my fridge magnets collection :P

    1. Wow! You studied in Europe. How nice! You must have got a few hundred magnets by now.

You probably knew that they were selling so many cute and fabulous magnets in Shanghai. I had to limit myself to just one.

  3. I keep fridge magnet and sometimes I don't mind spending a bit for a good quality one.

Thanks for the recommendation and would love to check it out some day for the Thai food and ice cream there.

    1. I also would invest slightly in better fridge magnets as they give better oomph and everlasting happy memories.

You will enjoy the Thai food there. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE!

  4. Oh hello :)
So... my first comment on your blog, I read your posts though. Grin.

I used to collect keychains too till I realised if they are nice, I'm reluctant to use them and if i use them, they get worn out very fast.
Now I collect fridge magnets and will get extra if I know my friends collect them too. :)

I also have lots of unused keychains because I have few keys only. Bad investment.

  5. I was just speaking with a colleague this morning and we were sharing what we collect from countries we visited and then this post. As she collects postcards of countries she had been to, I do buy an artwork and bring them back home. Most of them are framed so they were bulky. Keychains are probably the best or fridge magnets, but I guess, a scenic picture with the blogger in it would be a best gift for me.

    1. We have some kinda telepathy as our birthdays are just one day apart!

I also agree that taking photos are more meaningful and priceless. Long ago I used to bring empty luggage to travel but carted a heavy bag home!!! Silly me!

    1. Hey there is a trend now for HIS & HERS bathroom sinks and fridges at home. One stores all the dry cooking ingredients and the other is for daily use items like milk, water, ice cream, cakes and snacks.

  7. My fridge has lots of magnets also, always got my mom one from anywhere I've been to, so the fridge are almost full of it...until my mom even clarify not to buy to fragile one because if accidentally close the fridge door too hard, some of them will fell...

  8. wow!! Anay has got two fridges at home, and he segregate the magnets into zones, one fridge for places he has been and where he bought the magnets.. another is for magnets given by friends!! Thambee like the CB idea~~ :p

    1. It was not planned on where the magnets should be. One sits in the dining and the other sleeps inside the kitchen. So I would definitely line the pretty ones on the active fridge's door. So you like my CB idea!!! Great CB minds think alike... Wakakaka

  9. Thambee also likes fridge magnets, and always prefer magnets than keychains.. but magnets can really be very expensive and Thambee was not willing to fork out the money.. anyway, memories are kept in the heart and mind forever..

    1. Wokay wokay... next time buy magnets lah. So flat and easy to carry & post them too.

  10. looking at the two categories of magnets, we can tell that Anay has a posh taste, he doesn't buy those magnets that comes with cheapo touristy design with huge words of the place, instead he buys designs that are more subtle and classy.. of course, we all knew those hello kitty were bought for (or by to be exact) Letchumy only~~ :p

    1. Anay is old and fussy. Most of the times, the good magnets in overseas do not even print any names on them! Sigh! I learnt something so distinctive about their landmarks, trademarks and signature icons. Just like Merlion belongs to only SINGAPUUURAAAAAA!!! Muahahaha

  11. as for your question at the ending part.. I would like a postcard sent from the place itself, and then when you are back home, fridge magnet on a bed of tidbits as souvenirs!!! muahahaha.. I know you are going to scold me CB idea~~ :p

    1. Oh dear, I am sweating profusely after reading your expected greedy demands. Thambee always bullies Anay since many moons ago. I should have tied you up the coconut tree in the slums of Chennai and spank your ass.
I will give you a bag full of spicy very hard muruku instead.

    3. Hey the RM38 price for 4 magnets is very cheap wor. I bought the Chinese Opera piece for almost RM20 each!! Sweats!! It is nice that you are understanding and don't expect anything. Look at SK's list of wrathful demands above and you will hammer his karipap hair style. Dok! Dok!

  15. Oh mine how I like this post, fridge magnet is my favourite collection when I travel, I would buy them for myself or friends, so you got the hint?? Hee hee.

By the way I have never been to Boracay too but I have Boracay fridge magnet as a souvenir from my sis.

The Chinese Opera fridge magnet caught my eye too but I also like the Hello Kitty ones below, they are so sweet and nice

The Opera faces magnets also nice too, aiyo, all your magnets are nice lah, haha

I also ever share about my fridge magnets too, but mine are nothing compare to yours, hee hee

As for the last question, I am sure you know the answer right, I love to collect fridge magnets but sometimes my mom would nag, she says the magnets stick on the fridge would spoil the fridge :(

As for key chains, not so much as how many key chains can you use. At least magnets you still can stick them and display

As for tidbits, I don't have the habit of snacking so no no too

    1. You should share your magnets with everyone. Your collection would definitely be different from others. Every piece is nice and would tell a different story.

The fridge doors that are coated with spray paints would definitely fade over the years to expose the magnet shapes. My fridge doors are coated with steel sheets instead and they don;t fade at all.

  20. You know what, I want a second fridge. hah..hah..one is not enough! I also like fridge magnets but I don't actively collect them. I have 2 or 3 as gifts from my brother when he traveled overseas.

  21. I also got some magnets or rather my kid wanted to get it. His tuition teacher is a avid collector of magnets and my kid decided to get one for her in China, which is an opera mask (similar to what you have). Then, we also got some , especially the magnet of Oriental Pearl Tower (OPT) in Shanghai. It was very nice, as well as as magnet resembling the word 'Shanghai'. You should get the OPT magnet next time. I was searching for it but can't find leh... hahaha

  33. Cool! My better half also keeps fridge magnets, it's nice coz we can also see the places we've been to and the events (musicals and such) we have attended.

Also the places we've been to with the kids, there are photo magnets nowadays.

It's a nice format to keep memories since you open your fridge multiple times a day!

  34. I stopped buying souvenirs, I just take lots of photos of the place and of us as a family.
