I have been having a stressful week after my tenants moved out from my condo last week. They were a bunch of bachelors male monkeys from China. The mess and damages they left behind is the worst compared to my earlier tenants from Iran, Libya and North Korea. The earlier ones were all neat and tidy tenants unlike this China's troop of wild monkeys. The Libyan couple even re-painted my whole condo unit to sparkling white before handling over the keys! Loved them to the moon & back.
A year ago, there was this China company inside Faber Towers that needed 20 units of fully air-conditioned condo units for their so-called IT staff from China. The property agents hurriedly contacted me right after the North Korean diplomat had returned back to Pyongyang. That IT company only asked for 1 year contract and have since evacuated all the 20 units, to move their operations to another country. No prizes for you to guess what sort of business they were doing.
Horrors!! Look at how they had damaged the cabinet corner where the sink was. The sink had been detached from the thick wooden table top plus pipes broken below with water seeping all below the whole cabinet. I could only guess that someone very heavy like a Thai elephant had playfully sat beside the sink to cause it to crack & break down. Life is not always a bed of roses for the landlords.
I got my handyman to tear out the damaged portion and build a new concrete cabinet with brand new sink and tap. The future tenants can dance A-Go-Go on the concrete slab and it will not break anymore. I had to plan all the repair work in all the rooms & toilets for these handymen and had to hop over to IKEA to buy new cabinet doors. I was so pleased that they have almost very identical design patterns sold at IKEA. That means my old kitchen cabinet doors are still in fashion trends! LOLOL
I really need a break!!!
I have booked Air Asia's new flight destination to Belitung Islands at Indonesia! The earlier return tickets were launched just over 100 ringgit! I was a bit late but still got return tickets at under RM200.
Next week, I will bring my wife there for a week to destress our heads and check out this unknown & isolated islands where the sea waters are all crystal clear until you could see the tiny hairs on your toe nails. Muahahahaha!
*****
OMG. Do they shower in the kitchen?!
ReplyDeleteShower cum Orgy is more appropriate! Muahahahaha
DeleteNever mind lor. Win some lose some. They are already paying your condo installment payment to the bank liao or you have already fully paid for your condo. If it is so easy to be landlords, then everyone would be doing it. It is for tough people like you to be landlords.
ReplyDeleteWah, so nice to bring your wife to a holiday. Must reward her for taking part in the Iron Wo/Men competition. Are you going to write about that day?
LOLOL. You speak like a very experienced landlord to calculate so well. I agree that it is not easy when one rented out to a troop of monkeys. Otherwise it is quite simple of cleaning up and touch up the walls only.
DeleteSpot on. This coming trip is to bring her to relax and destress from humans here. I will find time to post something about that Ironman event. I have too many posts growing mushrooms in my archive now, from the trip to UK till the recent trip to Penang.
Seems things aren’t dissimilar anywhere, esp. those rent out houses for bachelors. We have rented couple of our portions of us above the house and this kind of repairs is regular after each exit but some bachelors are better than family in keeping house clean.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip and exploring the pretty island you found. Cheers
You can feel my plight as your parents often rented out rooms to tenants too. I think the case is opposite here as families treat the rented abode better than bachelors from China (only)
DeleteI will be wiser next time.
They say the best tenants are from japan, japanese are known to be sensitive to people's needs. So being landlord is not really passive income as they put it.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I would agree that the best tenants would be Japanese! Even North or South Koreans would be nice as they sweep and mop the floor every single day. My North Korean diplomat tenant was very clean except they often had no money due to their government's issues. The diplomat's wife did not even know how to operate the air conditioners as they probably don't own one in Pyongyang. Pity them la.
Deleteit's hard but China people are probably the worst?
ReplyDeleteA well traveled guy like you could verify whether the mainlanders are the worst. It is just my guess only as I had covered many areas in China and had seen the filth of their toilets and SPA! It is totally acceptable by them and we are deemed as people with 'mental problems' in our heads. LOLOL
DeleteOh dear, that's terrible, the state they left your condo in! :O You have travelled extensively to China and should have known them better than to rent to people from China (if you have Airbnb properties, better stay clear of them). I hear (Chinese) tourists from other countries tend to 'disassociate' themselves from China tourists...haha! :D
ReplyDeleteOh well, I was doubtful at first but agent assured me that the tenants would only go back to sleep at the condos without any cooking at all. In the end, there were like 8 smokers staying there and cooked some Emperor's feast as the oil stains on the tiles and cabinet top stuck there like elephant glue. All the air-conds were coated with thick layers of nicotine soot that could peel off like sheets of seaweed from China. Muahahahaha

Another rival agent gossiped and told me the majority of tenants came from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Fujian and Henan to occupy the 20 units. What a merry circus.
You are absolutely right about them 'disassociating' as I once suggested to a friend from Hunan to visit Phuket for a vacation. He rejected my idea citing too many mainlanders would be there! It took me months to understand his concern until I went to a remote town in Japan and bumped into a KL family on holiday too. Their unsightly behaviour did disturbed my head for a minute.
Oh my! I heard plenty of horrible stories of being landlords. Not easy income actually. But luckily you found someone to sort it out. Enjoy your trip to Belitung with your wife. Tickets under RM200 are actually not bad the price.
ReplyDeleteI am always a risk taker considering that we could earn from rents and future appreciation of condo prices. I even rented a condo before to sub-let out all the furnished rooms to working bachelors and pocketed extras from the individual rents.
DeleteThe launch price by AA was like RM120 return KL-Belitung-KL but I missed that fare.
Alamak! So bad!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, have fun on your vacation!
Yeah teruk ni orang.
DeleteThank you Lina.
Gosh. Tenants from hell!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great holiday.
There is nothing they won't break in all the countries they visited as tourists too.
DeleteThis island is very near to Borneo.
WHAT ON EARTH!? that's mental. i'll be glad to know if you didn't return them their move in deposit! also, you're the second person going to belitung. looks gorge!! pics, please. :D
ReplyDeleteHola!! You are back!!!!
DeleteI rather return them deposits and have a peace of mind.
You should visit Belitung too.
So sorry for you. But the tickets are very cheap to go to Indonesian island. I hope you would enjoy your trip very much.
ReplyDeleteGoodness! People always think that landlords have it good. Own property and can collect lots of rent but they do not know or are aware of tenants from hell! Not that easy lah unless if you happen to get really decent tenants. I am very impressed with the Libyan couple. Such tenants are hard to come by.
ReplyDeleteI was once a landlord to those African "students" and it was a nightmare too for me in terms of collecting rental and utilities bills matter. Luckily they didn't " destroy" my unit like yours, pity you but at least they didn't burn your unit >_<
ReplyDeleteI want to go to Belitung
ReplyDeleteOMG! how awful. some people just don't care.
ReplyDeleteAnay and Letchumy, happy holiday at Belitung.
ReplyDeleteAnay and Letchumy taking flight more frequent than Yannie buying Kotex pad. Jealous la!
Behave in Belitung! :P
