It has been 10 years since the last time I went to a dentist. Earlier, I had developed a terrible phobia since childhood towards the extreme pain caused my those govt clinic's dental nurses. I swore that I would let my teeth rot and drop off by themselves rather than get drilled by them!
Well recently my wife hypnotized me to discard away some bad habits from my subs conscious. Not knowing that the process actually managed to successfully stop my snacking habits and even my lifelong phobia towards dentists! Voila!
A student friend who just enrolled to the dental school explained to me that they are always desperate to look for patients for their 4th Year practical otherwise they would not be able to graduate. Anay just pitied them and remembered my uncle who died in Bangkok & pledged to donate his body to the medical students at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. I have blogged it

It has been many weeks when I would go to the torture chamber at their dental school on Fridays. They use the latest equipments!
They also use the best hi-tech gadgets like Star Wars weapons etc. There is also a mini screen monitor to view my tooth X-Rays! Goodness! I have over 10 BIG cavities to be done besides the full scaling, extractions and canal treatments. Sobs!
I would cry and had to beg for injections to numb all my gums otherwise my legs will rise up in pain!
Look at me getting masked like this every week for 2-3 hours! My lips would tear open and my jaws would ache! Thank goodness I have finished 5 visits and have another 5 more to go. It costs only RM10 registration fee per visit. So cheap and good! Would you like to be a Guinea Pig too?

DeleteMy teeth is still alright. So far so good. No pain at all. Except I have a wisdom tooth, it grows out of shape. Dentist advised me to take it off long ago. Since it makes no pain on me, I just live with it until now. I won't want to take away my wisdom.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I wasn't smart enough for a medical course. That time, the only fully paid (i.e. sponsored study) that accepted me was TESL and IT. ;p

Also, I did my Form 4 career assignment interviewing dentists and dental nurses at my hometown dental clinic. It was super fun!

Deletethat's it and since then i have not been to a dentist until last year.. one of my molar teeth is giving me problems and cause very uncomfortable and spiking ache.. and so i went to the nearest dentist in MV to get it filled.. cost me RM300 for that!! gosh, so expensive..
Deletei can say that the dentist was the worst i have ever met.. so rough and i don't think she has did a good job on the filling.. just a couple of months later, my tooth began to ache again and i can feel the filling actually torn off.. there goes my RM300 KNN!!!
Deleteso i went to another dentist and she told me i could not fill that tooth anymore cos it has cracked into two!! so i gotta have it extracted!! she was good, make sure i have enough of injections and numb enough so that i didn't feel her extracting my tooth out..
Deletevoila!! and with just a little bit of uncomfortableness, that split tooth was removed and i feel so good after that.. and it just cost me RM100!! KNN, if i knew that, i would just have it removed and save that RM300 charged by that lousy dentist at MV..

I got scared by the free dental service during my schooling years. The nurses came every half year and I was always the lucky one kena selected. And every time sure they did something to my teeth. Poor Ah Hua!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a teenager, my mama sent me to a dentist monthly to get my crooked teeth done, by wearing braces for 2 years. Which meant, dates with my worst enemy for 24 months!

No thanks for the guinea pig post, I had enough stories on the dental chair to share. If possible, I do not wish to visit them but I need to do checkup annually.
