Every year, my bosses would support the veteran Chinese Diva Mary Sia Ling Ling to organize her charity dinner shows. Last Saturday was the 4th year I attended her dinner shows with my wife, best buddy Desmond Wong and my entire office colleagues.
1. They always picked this HGH Convention Centre in Sentul which has got all the good criteria to hold big events like ample parking lots and very cold air conditioning system. The above photo was borrowed from here by me without permit and all photos below were taken by my Samsung S3. Just pretend that my photos looked good and nice wokay.
2. They raised a lot of money this year in aid of Sau Seng Lum Haemodialysis Centre and Liang Liang Temple, Rawang. I could not find the other photo that flanked all the total mock cheques. Anyways, they are my bosses Datuk Simon (1st left), Datuk Hong (3rd left), Mary Sia (4th left) and Datuk Brian (5th left).
3. I must say that her concert has improved every year and this year was the best with better showmanship, dancing & singing.
4. Mary Sia was famous during the 70s in Malaysia. She gracefully posed for me to snap this photo and inset was her album which I found inside eBay!!! Still laku, oh boy! I am not Chinese educated but could appreciate her beautiful voice which still attracts all her loyal aunty supporters in KL. I had lunch with her & my bosses a few times and she is indeed a very humble, soft & friendly lady with a flawless complexion.
5. It was a "Double Kings And Queens" dinner show where Diva Mary Sia had teamed up with Michelle Xie Cai Yun, Chiau Hwa and Yang Ping. Do you them all?
6. This singer was very artistic and changed costumes many times! This one looked like a Mermaid.
7. He also had feathers on.
8. We all enjoyed the entertainment very much. It was worth my night and our VVIP table was tagged at RM5,000.00!!!!! Many thanks to my dear boss Datuk Simon Lee.
9. That was the end with encore for them to croon the latest numbers.
10. As usual, I was busy until I forgot to snap the food photos as I am a lousy food blogger.
Here is my fried rice with a rose!
....
Grand event! I am sorry I don't know who these artistes are as I do not listen to Chinese songs. It is good to support charity. Whatever we can give back to society to help the underprivileged, we should do so.
ReplyDeleteYes the event was very grand with many Datins & Tai-Tai sashaying in the best gowns and blings.
DeleteYou are so young and I would not expect you to know but at least you know her now from my blog! She is a singer turned Philanthropist.
Diva who? I'm like Phong Hong, dunno any of them.
ReplyDeleteDun blaff la.... She was a singer in your era la. You were probably her fan once but not anymore.
DeleteWe have a famous getai host here Liu Ling Ling...
ReplyDeleteOh do you think Liu Ling Ling and Sia Ling Ling are cousins?
DeleteHello hello.. Aiyakk, I only see this update in my feed now wor.. 3 minutes more before my 'fong gung" time.. I shall come back later ok.. I "sik kei" first, teehee..
ReplyDeleteCall me jakun, what is getai? No time to google liao.. Bye..
DeleteWait, is it something like drag queen?
DeleteOk, I really need to go, I come back later ok.. Muaxxxx
DeleteI'm back! Finished house chores and put the kids to bed.. First, give me five, coz I use a Samsung S3 too, haha.. Mine is the pink one..
DeleteSecondly, omg, the first picture, the most left guy in beige suit looks like you wei!! Haha..
Third, call me jakun, I've never heard of this HGH place altho I'm from KL leh..
All your pictures look like its a really high class event.. Got kelas, man!
Forgive me. Curse me. The Mary Sia picture looks like that Singaporean actor la.. I thought its him who dresses up as a woman.. Phiak me please.. I really thought she's a man !!
Wah RM5k per table.. Should take pic of the food ma.. Wana see how papai it is.. hehe.. You are so funny to just take pictures of the fried rice in the end.. You paiseh take pictures ahh coz you were sitting with all the big shots and your bosses.. haha
DeleteYou are always funny with comments and cracked every blogger. I am not a fan of dinner shows as I cannot afford them but since my bosses helped to organize yearly, I should support a bit la. Anyways, I just wish to share with the public about this veteran singer who is a very good philanthropist today with caring heart. Her voice is still good and crispy!
DeleteI am not a food blogger that's why I never thought of snapping foodie shots. I was playing with that fried rice & rose, so that was my only shot.
#01.. ah, HGH Convention Centre in Sentul, i know this place.. pass by quite often and I gotta agree this place is often booked for events.. and actually it does look quite majestic in this photo you have chosen..
ReplyDelete#02.. the photos you have taken are good enough lah.. so those are your bosses who would swear vulgar words while puffing inside the meeting room?? and actually the 1st on the left looks like Anay without specs!! OMG~~
#03.. these charity concerts by Malaysian artists are always colorful and full of dancers, all wearing very flamboyant costumes and props!! quite typical and always such an entertaining scene to watch.. :p
Next year I will drag you to that event if fate allows since you have never stepped inside! Yeah those are the smoke chimney bosses who are fearless.
DeleteOh gross, how could you & Princess Ribbon say that I looked like him?? Which part, tell me!!!?? I use SK-II but he doesn't la. Wakakakakaka
I always wished that Malaysian dancers could dance like K-Pop standard.
#04.. ooopsss, i really have no idea who Mary Sia is!! thanks for the brief introduction to this famous singer in the 70s, and great is her spirit in organizing charity shows every year!! she was indeed very pretty when she was young as seen on her album cover..
ReplyDelete#05.. Xie Cai Yun and Chiau Hwa, yes, i have heard of them.. but not Mary Sia and Yang Ping.. BTW, Yang Ping should be Yang Ting instead, as what I try to translate from his name in Chinese on the backdrop..
#06 & #07.. so this is Yang Ting right?? yeah, very bombastic costumes right?? mermaid and fur, wow, imagine Anay wearing this and chasing Letchumy around the coconut trees!! sure fall down with face flat on the ground when Letchumy accidentally stepped on the tail, but the fur could probably be a good cushion for less impact~~ :D
It is okay that you all young bloggers do not know Mary Sia. That's why I posted in my blog to introduce this caring and famous diva who has taken a low profile lifestyle these days, doing charity always! Thanks for telling me about Yang Ting's name as I merely copied from NST events article. You are always cleber la my Thambee for having the ability to read 2 languages fluently beside Tamil and BM. Wakakakakaka
DeleteAnay is too shy and old to wear these costumes la. You kidding me!
#08.. wow, RM5000 for a table!! haha, never mind lah, you just went there being invited by your boss.. just let him pay and be the honorary guest.. you eat and enjoy the show enough dei~~
ReplyDelete#09.. ah, now we can see clearly the Awesome Four on stage!! okay, i can tell their names now, from left Qiao Hua, Sia Ling Ling, Xie Cai Yun and Yang Ting!! bingo~~
#10.. of course we know you are not a food blogger, so no surprise if there is no food photos lah.. unlike some bloggers, food comes more important than anything even during a gathering with friends (i mean could be 9 photos of food and only 1 on the group photo)..
It was the most expensive dinner I ever had and it came with 2 bottles of Wine from Spain in candle light setting with 2 waiters serving per table! I regret for not snapping the food and wine photos now. Silly me.
DeleteThey called themselves Double Kings and Queens that night....Qiao Hua, Sia Ling Ling, Xie Cai Yun and Yang Ting....
I must learn to be a food blogger from now on as I always had the privilege to eat good places too.
Agree HGH is a great place for this kind of event or wedding dinners as there is no pillars to block the stage and ample parking spaces. Not sure this was arranged by the host or HGH to have 'tuk tuk' to drive the customers to and from car park to the main hall during my last dinner there.
ReplyDeleteYes the 'tuk-tuk' service is the only kind in KL for car parks. So thoughtful of the HGH management.
DeleteI didn't realise they have this no-pillars advantage after you have pointed out to me. You are so observant la Pisang!
Soli Mary or Michelle Who & gang no ring a bell, could have heard them sing before but just that dunno their names. Based on your pixz they have nice costumes & looked very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame la you know nothing about them. I think you were those who listened to Elvis and Frank Sinatra... eemmmm
DeleteWow what a romantic rosy flied lice
ReplyDeleteYup my rosy flied lice was yammy!! LOL
Delete"above photo was borrowed from internet by me without permit"...internet what source ah...at least give la credit borrow from xxxx website...haiyo...dont curi aysm la...can copy photo sure can copy url and gv credit ma....
ReplyDeleteWakakaka "
Aiyo Anay curi ayam la in a hurry to post and lazy to paste the URL. Okei I will do it soon.
DeleteBut then hor...your photo mrmmsng look good leh with Samsung s3. No need "borrow" phoyos. But terbalik others might "borrow" your photo leh
ReplyDeleteWakakakakaka... I have seen bloggers who borrowed my photos but I didn't give a damn la.
DeleteWaaaaaaa so cantik your fried rice...got FLOWER deco ;)
ReplyDeleteyah.. that old school flower biscuit used to decorate the butter cream cake!! i had those a lot when i was young.. Letchumy must have purposely prohibited guests on the same table to take that, and she gave it to Anay!!
DeleteI think these flowery biscuits started during the 50s or 60s! They are still in production and sold at supermarkets! We will bake Thambee a wedding cake with all colours of biscuit roses okay!!!!
DeleteYes, quite a good place for functions
ReplyDeleteYes it is the best for me as parking is easy without long walks and many elevators nonsense!
DeleteThat's one entertaining dinner! I would love to hear them sing..
ReplyDeleteI know you would appreciate such functions too! Someday you should organize a charity dinner in Ipoh!
DeleteWOW! RM5K for a table... the food must be fantastic... Never before I sat for dinner at 5K ... you must be one VIP in your company.. normally only high ranking staff only can get to go for these prestigious dinners! :) Geng ah!!
ReplyDeleteMary Sia still looks good leh.. must be in her 60s now? Love to listen to all the old songs of yesteryears... though I don't understand all the words... :)
I am just a small fart in the company to fill the empty seats la. Wakakakaka
DeleteYes she is in her 60s now and has flawless skin which must be due to her careful diet. I am a banana too but I would appreciate those singers who could croon out well.
wah ...TM love getai too! Not my cup of tea though .hahah
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a teenager who adores Justine Bieber?? Hello??
DeleteWahhhh so syiok ah watch the show?
ReplyDeleteHope it was an enjoyable evening for all. Sure looks like it! :)
Yeah anyone would have enjoyed this free makan and wayang la! Just an opportunity to dress up too.
DeleteRM64K for charity. That is very nice sum. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was more than that sum but I could not find the photos. I think it exceeded over RM200K.
DeleteAnay so lucky some more to spend more time with her outside the concert.
ReplyDeleteWahhh... ini tan sri memang living the high life lah :)
Tan Sri?? Siapa? Siapa?
DeleteI met a lot of people but never wanna talk la, nanti they say I sombong pula.
To be honest, I also don;t know any of the above singers you mentioned :P
ReplyDeleteYou are so young and I guess only your grandma knows her. Well, today you have heard of this diva nd will remember la.
DeleteThose Datuks you mentioned I don't know at all, and who is Mary Sia? :p
ReplyDeleteBut I recognise a name, Xie Cai Yun, hehe!
Haha, I bet you enjoyed the night very much la! No food photos? Never mind, at least there's one fried rice photo to 'entertain' us :p
DeletePlease tell me you didn't eat that rose on your fried rice LOL!
ReplyDeleteSeems like everyone at your table enjoyed themselves very much. Where did you get the rose for your fried rice? Hehehe, nice decoration.
ReplyDeletedid she sing any Hakka numbers? she is the Hakka diva....
ReplyDeleteSounds great! Hope you guys continue the good deeds :)
