Exercise In Moderation

I have been frequently asked "Is exercise good for you?"
The expert's reply - Mostly, yes. Sometimes, it’s not at all.
In fact, there are times when exercise can be downright dangerous.

There are lots of good evidence that regular exercise of any kind
will lower your cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar.

It will make you stronger, thinner, more alert, and lower
your risk of cancer, stroke, heart attack, arrhythmia
and blood clots. So please exercise. You’ll feel better
and live longer but do it in moderation,
says the expert.

My wife is an exercise and fitness freak who often gave me raised eye brows & shocking surprises. She has cycled with her gang for the torturous Century Ride of 180km around Penang till Kedah & Perak States besides trips up to Fraser's Hills, Hulu Langat, Melaka and others on her 2 wheels. She has dragged me to hike up Mount Kinabalu, Mount Emei-Shan, Mount Jiuhua-Shan and Mount Hua-Shan in China. My heart and poor legs were often screaming for help. Now she is into Tai Chi after mastering her head-stand pose to get her Teaching Certificate for Yoga. This Saturday would be her second Tai-Chi Tournament in Johor Bahru.

There is a huge park with a big lake, complete with flowing water streams
and jungle trails nearby my home. This Kiara Park is very spacious and
neat with abundance of wild greens.

It is a very popular place for all families of the 3 generations.
They will come for slow walks, jogging and even conduct boot camps!

There are many species of monkeys and exotic birds too.
I even saw the rare protected red butted monkeys!
The air is very fresh with lots of flowing energy.

That's yours truly, climbing up the rocks at where my wifey
said was the easiest trails of hers. You will also see hundreds of brave cyclists
riding their mountain bikes across the tough trails which looked
very dangerous & steep.

That's my tough Iron Woman who could sweep all the toughest
trails daily with her like-minded hikers or even ALONE!

She would also practice her Tai Chi movements and swords very often. Her tournament is coming up and she trained so rigorously until her tendon snapped! She became a crippled and had to see the TCM Tit-Tar to fix her leg which had internal bleeding. That Chinese doctor cupped out all the 'loose' internal blood out which looked slimy.

Remember that I fell inside the drain 2 months ago? My leg has healed but the dark patches were still visible and would not disappear. I went to this TCM Doctor who used needles to painfully prick my leg to extract out all the 'loose' blood that was bad in colour and thick like glue! That's dangerous and should be removed otherwise I would have multiple blood clots in near future.

Mr & Mrs Leg Fashion.

    3. I never made reservations over the years. I just found out that weekdays have lesser patients but weekends are always full unless you reach there before opening. I am kiasu.

You can call the number to ask anything.

    1. I have been well all the way except the blood sucking session followed by bandage.
Nothing could stop her and she will participate by hook or by crook. I think her mind power is like yours - Joan of Arc.

  11. Alamak! Mr & Mrs Leg fashion. Your wife is an active outdoor person and that is good. Better than being a couch potato :D

I love jogging and playing the badminton. I jog at least 4 times a week and tries to play badminton as often as I can.

Hey I still have problem to post comments in your wonderful blog. I heard another blogger also could not do so. Perhaps you can check your settings or was it my problem? TQ

  13. I like the use of the word moderation in exercise...that means we shouldn't exercise too much....ok, point noted...kekeke! ;D That cupping therapy looks painful and scary...but, hey, even Michael Phelps is into cupping! >.<

    1. Wow! I have almost forgotten about Michael Phelps' name and this is a surprise that he knows the importance of cupping. This made me suspect that he had "back aches & wind" for swimming too much in the water and got advice for this treatment.

  14. I must shake hand with Mrs.Leg Fashion. I admire her life. I love to have a friend as active as her.

Last month, I tried to see whether my legs was stronger or the coffee table was stronger. I banged on it, my left knee was bruise immediately, but my right knee was feeling sharp pain .

Now, my left knee was recovered completely, my right knee is giving trouble whenever I run or hike. Sigh! I wish to have full recovery as soon as possible so that I can run and hike in my normal speed.

Get well soon, Mr. and Mrs. Leg Fashion. If I were to bump into both of you in this kind of leg fashion, I didn't know to laugh or not. lol!

    1. Thank you for your kind wishes. Both of you are really on the same track of fitness and health freaks besides being perfectionists in everything you do.

Ouch! You also had this coffee table knocks which happened to me frequently. Either I am too tall or my coffee table is too high. If there is blue black bruises, better get the tit-tar to suck out. Don't play play as I just discovered how my friend had so many artery blockages.

  17. My personal opinion is that we should learn to trust our body. Everyone's body is different so there is no definite fixed quantity of workout that is suitable for all. You should keep working out, so long as you feel comfortable with it. The moment you feel uncomfortable is your body telling you to take it down a notch.

I never believe in the doctrine of "pushing your body over the limits again and again". Over-stressing your body over and over again can only be bad in the long term...

    1. I think exactly like you and dare not push myself anymore as I have aged. I have to remind myself often that I am not a teenager anymore. Each time I saw the marathon was over, many veterans were limping and suffered from old leg injuries. They told me that they were still stubborn.

  20. Hope both feeling better after the treatment... Yes, exercise is good and obviously should be moderate to keep away risk. Being a muscular dystrophy, exercise is must for me but over done will weaker the muscle and not doing does the same.

Nice place for exercise and hike, checking unique species of birds and animals
