How To Make A Miniature Garden.

I think I will become a gardener soon. It has been therapeutic weeks for me to potter around the green space at home. I have been shifting pots and plants after the makeover. Suddenly I realized many plants looked boring and I had to do something creative.

I have few empty pots and several packets of black soil which I ordered through Lazada during this MCO. I should use up all the pots from now.

I rounded up some boring plants that should be planted together where their colour difference and texture might spruce up my gardening.

First I planted these stalks that have been rotting away in a water container. It belongs to my wife.

Next, I planted some leafy plant which is reddish in colour.

Then I added another plant which has stripes of red and green tones.

I added 2 more plants and placed some white pebbles around the black soil. My miniature garden is taking shape nicely.

Maybe I should place a ceramic Japanese Doll in the miniature garden to make it look interesting.

Voila! Here is my Miniature Garden that I completed in less than 1 hour. I shall name it "My Tokyo Garden".

  1. So cute! Where did you get the doll from? Next you should do bonsai and trim a award winning bonsai plant.

    1. So cute? Thanks! The doll came from Japan. I probably bought it from Daiso in Osaka. Now I wish I have a Torii Gate to add into the miniature garden.

I have a rambutan tree in a big pot. I have been trimming it short until it has become Bonsai Rambutan. No fruits yet.

    1. Oh no. Having water features will be a headache and attracts mosquito breeding. There has been too many dengue cases in my area for years.

    1. I spent many hours sitting and watching people in the parks all over Japan. They are good at planting contrasting colours and using benches in striking colours with pretty ponds of Koi fishes. My little pot should add more colours.

  7. When I saw your post title on how to make a miniature garden, I thought you'd be making a terrarium...but it turned out to be a real mini garden in a flower pot...lol! You have some floral arrangement 'juices' flowing in your veins. If you're ever out of a job, you can apply to be a florist...wuahahahaha! :D Why do you choose black soil over say the usual brown soil...is it supposed to be better? That's coming from someone who knows nothing about gardening! P/S: Now you don't need a floral decoration in your home, your Tokyo Garden can be the centrepiece! ;)

    1. I have been thinking of terrariums for many weeks as I have an empty fish bowl sitting idle. Somehow I could not find the suitable plants until I start visiting the plant nurseries. I seldom see terrariums in Malaysia as they are probably popular in cold climate countries like London. I will put thoughts into this again. Maybe I can experiment them and sell the beautiful ones to the shops!

Black soil is always more expensive than brown ones as they will always be soft and rich with nutrients. Only certain plants need and survive well in brown soil that often hardened like mud cakes! Example is pineapple and coconut trees like brown or sandy soil.

    1. Hey! Gardening is not strenuous at all. It relaxes our brains and removes stress! You should grow potatoes since you are lazy like one. LOLOL

  9. During this MCO everyone has become either a Masterchef or a gardener. Love this idea. I am trying my hands to plant vegetables.. hahaha

    1. I realized I have no patience to grow vegetables as there is harvesting and monitoring daily. I won't be able to grow cauliflower and tomatoes which I love.

    1. I think I like Art which is in my blood. I could sit in the Historical and Art museums alone for hours staring & dreaming at the pieces.
My miniature garden is my first attempt and needs fine tuning with the perfect combination of plants. This round I used what have been lying around.

    1. I am surprised that people can be obsessed with miniature things. You must be a fan of Snow White and her 7 dwarfs! Just kidding.

I have been doing things I have not done all my life during this MCO. More to come.

  17. Your miniature garden is absolutely stunning. The garden collection is great. This is definitely something I will be implementing soon at my home. Will look into this space for more such ideas. You make one heck of a gardener. The white pebbles are superb, and they've added to the entire look of the miniature garden.
