Happy Father's Day

Last week, it marked the 100th Day of my late mother's death anniversary. It was like a dream to me when I attended the praying sessions conducted by the Thai monks. I sat down on the floor inside the Wat Chetawan Temple with clasped hands and looked at the portrait of my mother's smiling face. I briefly thought over the journey of her life with my father.

They both had a very blissful time being together while going through all the good & turbulent days. They married for over 50 years and never once, they ever quarreled as my father has zero temper. My father had a hard life growing up in Teluk Anson while my mum had a princess lifestyle growing up in Thailand. They made a good & balanced match to waltz their days in the ballroom halls until my mum's last years.

I have promised her that I will always take care of dad
while she takes a long rest in the Western Paradise.

.........

My Dad is the greatest influence in my life.
On my darkest nights, he shone like my torchlight.
I often dozed off with the TV watching me,
He still carried me to sleep.
Dad was there always.

Dad, you have walked a long meaningful life!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

  4. I guess it is weird for me to wish your father Happy Father's Day, when I did not wish my own dad. Gosh... But then, me and my dad, we understand one, we are similar types who don't bother with these festivals, but will have each other's back all the time.

    1. My family does not celebrate all these Father & Mother's Days as they believe that it is all commercials. So we should treat them with our love, best care and due respects everyday.

You should come back to KL this weekend to cook for your dad using your new found love called Miss WOK.

  12. this is one very beautifully written post, showing how much love there is in Anay to his parents..

I guess we all started to learn how much our parents have done for us when they are getting old and eventually bedridden with sickness and finally gone to the western paradise.. and that makes us appreciate that relationship even more, something that we may not have been caring about when we were young..

it is a very sweet photo of your parents when they were young, both of them were really looking good!! like Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen of the South East Asia Peninsula..

we can all see Anay's father was and is a loving father, he has taught so much to Anay and influenced Anay to be one very kind and great man ever living on Earth!! I am pretty sure much of Anay's good traits come from his father.. the most obvious one, of course is being the best husband a wife could ever have!!!

well, I would not only wish you father a Happy Father's Day, but to all fathers out there, Happy Fathers' Day and may everyday be a wonderful Fathers' Day for all too!!! :)

    1. Amboi!!! SK Thambee is always sweet mouthed until Anay gets diabetes reading your sugared words.

I really agree that we often overlooked our parents' kindness and struggles until we know that they would be parting soon. All kinds of stories would replay and make our tears rain out.

I cannot match my father's kindness as he invested all his many decades helping the Spastics Handicaped and the Old Folks Home in Penang.

  13. I remember you said before, your dad taught you to love your wife wholeheartedly. From this point, I know he is a great man. Like father like son. Anay is a gentlemen, this was what taught by your parents.

    This is a heartwarming post.
Happy Father's Day to Uncle Tan.

    1. My dad says thank you Yannie.

Yes you remembered that he reminded me many times that my wife is the most important person in my life after I have gotten married. Right or wrong, rain or shine, I must support my wife always till eternity! He also pointed out that even if my wife is wrong outside with others, it is my duty to defend and protect her! I know Macho Jin Jin is a Hercules and great father to April & May. Happy Father's Day to him and may your family be blessed with all the happiness and good health forever!

    3. Your words here are words of wisdom, TM, indeed Buddhists believe that nothing is permanent and there is impermanence, it can be something good too, for example, if you are experiencing something bad, it is not permanent too
